Kapoho House provides an example of elevated tropical house
design from Bale Maker’s Hawaii portfolio. Built for Craig and Lisa Maas in
Kapoho on the Big Island, the residence uses the company’s Sulawesi Breeze
Besar model.
Bale Maker’s Kapoho House project profile, dated July 2007,
describes a two-bedroom home with open shared spaces and a direct serving
connection between the kitchen and the main deck.
An Elevated Structure Near the Tidal Flats
According to the project account, the house was elevated on
supports described as “10ft Sonar Tubes/Caissons” because of its location
around Kapoho’s tidal flats.
This relationship between the building and its site is the
defining feature of the project’s raised design.
Two Bedrooms and Open Shared Spaces
The house includes two bedrooms and open living and dining
areas. A pass-through servery connects the kitchen to the front main deck,
providing an opening through which food and drinks can be served.

compared with multimillion-dollar homes in the same area. The account does not
state a specific valuation for Kapoho House.
