Japanese-Inspired Pavilion House Design
Shinji Oahu Manis in Taiwan
Shinji Oahu Manis is a multi-pavilion home developed from
Bale Maker’s previously built Oahu Manis design. Created for Japanese client
Shinji Mori, the project combines that design foundation with Japanese features
selected for the home.
The intended destination was Taitung on Taiwan’s
southeastern coast, described in the project account for its beaches and waves.
Developing the Oahu Manis Design
Bale Maker identifies the home as a hybrid of its earlier
Oahu Manis model. Its Shinji Oahu Manis project profile records
factory prefabrication beginning in August 2013, with on-site completion
anticipated for March 2015.
That date represents the published target, rather than a confirmed completion date.
Japanese Features in the Home
The design incorporated:

A teppanyaki bar and grill.
·
A Japanese steam hot tub.
·
Japanese-style side and high-level feature glazing.
·
Japanese-style timber transoms.
Together with the multi-pavilion arrangement, these features
define the project’s individual brief.
The Client’s Enthusiasm for the Project
In the published account, Mori expressed excitement about
becoming Bale Maker’s first customer in the area and described the planned home
as the first of its type in southeastern Taiwan. This was the client’s stated
expectation.
